MSW CLINICAL PORTFOLIO
Patience Makurumure
I created this website as a way to articulate my learning journey in the MSW Clinical Specialization program, at the University of Calgary. As part of the program we are required to complete a capstone, outlining individual strengths, weaknesses, personal, and professional identities. In addition I will outline my learning from the courses, practice and underlying principles. I have included some images to illustrate some of my professional growth, identity and learning over the course of the program.
I will include my reflections on clinical practice, and critically analyse what I felt was successful and unsuccessful in each process; with the effort to identify what I could have changed to enhance future practice. I will also include my knowledge, skills and the values which I incorporated into practice with the clients while promoting anti-oppressive practice at my practicum with the Indigenous Mental health program.
I think this quote by Dr Martin Luther speaks to social justice and my role as a social work practitioner. "The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people, but the silence over that by the good people."
Throughout this project, I will endeavor to portray my MSW journey from the beginning to the end of the program. I don't proclaim to be the expert, however, with my training, experience and knowledge, I believe that I can address social injustice and structural inequalities when supporting individuals, families, and communities to live their preferred lives.
